The Obesity Free Foods Program
 
We believe that the food industry plays a major role in the prevelance of obesity. Our goal is to educate members of the food industry on obesity and to assist them in implementing changes necessary to help reduce the obesity epidemic, through the promotion of more natural, portion controlled, and nutrient dense foods.

 

What is an Obesity Free Food (O.F.F.)? 

 

O.F.F. is a designation that indicates that the food product has been produced and certified through approved manufacturing and nutritional guidelines to ensure that foods are (1) natural, (2) portion controlled and (3) nutrient dense.

 

OBESITY FREE FOODS ARE NOT DEFINED AS CALORIE FREE OR FAT FREE FOODS!

 

Obesity Free Foods are foods that, when consumed in proper portions, in conjunction with an Obesity Free Lifestyle composed of daily exercise, will provide sufficient nutritive value and will reduce the risk of obesity. Although some Obesity Free Foods may have zero calories, many Obesity Free Foods do contain calories, however, they contain just enough calories to impart the right amount of nutritive value for that particular food. 

 

Obesity Free Foods are low total fat and saturated fat and many are low in sodium as well.  Additionally, Obesity Free Foods do NOT contain artificial ingredients (i.e. artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, etc), trans fats, hydrogenated fats or partially hydrogenated fats.

Obesity Free Foods Standards

 
The Obesity Free Foods Association (O.F.F.A.) promulgates the nutritional guidelines and standards on certification, production, handling and labeling of Obesity Free Foods.

 

O.F.F. Certification and Accreditation

 

Obesity Free Foods Certifiers is authorized to certify the particular food product if it meets the guidelines set forth by the Obesity Free Foods Association. Obesity Free Foods Certifiers may enforce the standards and guidelines promulgated by the Obesity Free Foods Association.  Once these rigorous standards have been met, then the food product may bear the official Obesity Free Foods seal of the O.F.F.A.

 

Compliance and Enforcement

 

All products bearing the Obesity Free Foods designation must comply with the standards and guidelines promulgated by the O.F.F.A. and all such companies will be rigorously monitored. The O.F.F.A. will protect the integrity of Obesity Free Food. products through enforcement actions for non compliance.
